Ethical Self-Assessment Paper
Healthcare professionals are faced with ethical dilemmas frequently in the healthcare industry and they have the ability to influence patient care outcomes. Healthcare professionals face difficult choices concerning what is best for the patients and can sometimes become entangled with ethical dilemmas. Ethical decision making helps the healthcare professionals make the difficult choices when they are faced with an ethical dilemma. Those involved in the decision making process must consider ethical principles including justice, autonomy, beneficence and nonmaleficence as well as professional and organizational ethical standards and codes (American College of Healthcare Executives, 2014). In this paper, I plan to discuss what I learned from taking an ethical decision making self-assessment. I also plan to discuss the effects of professional American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) standards on my ethical decision making and how individuals’ ethics influence my decision making. Lastly I will discuss what strategies I could adopt to improve my ethical decision making in the future.

After completion of the assessment, I found that I have many areas that I excel in such as when it involves relationships with the patients and their families, community, colleagues and staff, and the clinicians. I also found some areas that I could use improvements in such as leadership and working with board whenever I am placed in a leadership position. The ethical assessment was a great tool to see the areas where I am most
