Ethical Issues of Wrongful Conception When it comes to the decision of the health care system, there are many things that a person needs to look into such as the elements of autonomy, fidelity, and confidentiality. Also one needs to know the diversity when it comes to making ethical decision and the “Patient’s Bill of Rights. In this paper it will discuss the elements of autonomy, fidelity and confidentiality. It will also explain the process of cultural diversity when it comes to ethical decision making and name some of the principles for ethical decision making. It will also discuss the implication of the Patients Bill of Rights. What is “wrongful conception”? Wrongful conception “refer to a claim for damages sustained by the parents of an unexpected child based on an allegation that conception of the child resulted from negligent sterilization procedures or a defective contraceptive device” (Pozgar, pg.89, 2010). According to the reading some of the damages that might result in a negligently performed sterilization would be pain and suffering associated with pregnancy and birth, lost wages, expenses of delivery, damages for emotional or psychological pain, suffering resulting from the presence of an additional family member in the household, the cost and pain suffering of a subsequent sterilization, damages suffered by a child born with genetic defects these are just some damage that can cause a wrongful conception, but the most controversial item of damage claimed is the raising a normal healthy child to adulthood. Autonomy is a” basic moral and political value is very much a modern development.
