Mr. Tate, a 59-year-old patient with end-stage renal disease, is well known to Jane Martin, APRN, who works in the dialysis clinic. Mr. Tate is hypertensive and overweight with a history of alcoholism. He often does not take his medications as ordered and almost never adheres to his prescribed diet. When Mr. Tae comes to the clinic, he often has excessive edema and is hypertensive. He admits to eating his favorite foods-hot dogs and potato chips. It is not unusual for Jane to smell alcohol on Mr. Tate’s breath. He even admits to drinking an occasional beer with his hot dogs and chips. Although Mr. Tate listens politely to Jane’s concerns about his lack of adherence to diet and medications, he continues to be non- adherent. Jane begins to wonder to what extent she as a nurse is obligated to spend time on patient teaching when the patient takes no responsibility for his own health. She also questions whether the benefit of expensive medications and treatments for Mr. Tate outweighs the cost.…

In Ethics Case BYP5-6, we are presented with a seemingly harmless accounting issue. Laura McAntee has just been hired as an assistant treasurer for a large retail store. Her new boss used to have her position but has since been promoted to treasurer. While explaining her new duties, he has asked her to date checks to pay invoices at a discounted rate, but hold on to the checks in order to gain interest on that money. He continues to explain away the practice by saying “everyone does it” and that the creditors need the business and will take it.…

In this mini case Mike Stephan is dealing with a very difficult situation because he is new to the accounting firm and wants to impress the superior accountants on his engagement team. While auditing for EarthWear, he makes a little mistake by spending too many hours looking at the wrong bank statements when he is not supposed to go over a total of 6 hours. Pressured by the senior on the audit, he is caught between lying about his hours or telling the truth and going over budget on the audit, potentially causing the other accountants on the team to look bad professionally. The first alternative that I have learned about when addressing ethical issues as a staff auditor would be to talk to the senior on the team and tell him/her exactly what is going on, but the senior is the one telling him to “eat” his hours. Since the manager is also putting pressure on the senior to pretend the extra hours never occurred, Mike needs to go directly to the partner on the team and tell him the issue. Another alternative would be to listen to the senior and “eat time” so the audit doesn’t go over budget and cost the firm’s reputation. A third alternative would be to record the to correct amount of hours spent on the audit.…

In this essay the Civil Act Rights of all black people was violated by categorizing them as all being the same which is really and unethical act within itself. By taking the personal belief of one person and dehumanizing all black people based on their personal feelings toward one race. This is against the law, however is it sad to say; you can find it being used, say and implemented in the world today. Due to law, most of the time it is practiced behind closed doors, and in personal conversations between people who share the same beliefs.…

One might argue that misrepresentation of academic credentials as demonstrated by Marilee Jones, the dean of admissions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Lewin, 2007) and a lie are not the same thing. She knowingly falsified information and suppressed it for several years; this is an ethical misrepresentation of epic proportions. When people misrepresent skill sets or academic accomplishments to achieve certain goals, they chose to play an ethical game of “Truth or Dare”. Crime in any form is a choice made by a human, and they should have to deal with the consequences.…
