For a job well done, Officers are given public praise, letter of accommodation just to name a few when they discovered home-made weapons, CDS, or an escape route. The accommodation letters looks good on their resume when job promotions come up. For example, it becomes unethical to either placed contraband in an inmates' cell or lie about it because it's beneficial to that officer(s) and yet it results in an inmate being placed in consolatory confinement.

You really have to be careful using egoism when you hold a position of power. You can’t do what is going to benefit their own interest but what is the best for law enforcement. There are times though where you have to do what is best for you, as an officer. I was always told that it is between you going home or the bad guy going home, you should pick the first option. There are times where you would want to do something that would make you feel good but you can’t legally so there is a fine line that you have to follow in order to keep your job as a police
