Abstract
Leadership positions are meant to serve the diverse people in any culture. Ab initio, there were no chiefs in Tivland. In recent times, the seat of the Tor Tiv has been created in order to act as a gadfly to the people. The Tiv nation in the 21st century appears to be lacking in the implementation of the goals of the founding fathers and in the task of satisfying the aspirations of the teeming population of Tiv sons and daughters. The future of the Tiv people is gradually becoming blink and full of frustrations. It is discovered that the ethics of the Tiv traditional institution “the Tor Tiv” are no longer recognised and respected. Instability of the Tiv society is the resultant effects of the helmsman interference in partisan politics in the state. The attitude of the Tor Tiv becomes unethical, unjust and anti-peace, thereby depriving him of the moral justification to stimulate the members into action for the good of the common society. The phenomenological method was adopted to analyse the information gotten on this issues. It is important for the Tor Tiv to ethically re-evaluate his call, mission and vision for the good of the people.
