In fact, Racial and ethnic disparities in the quality of health care are well documented in the U.S. health care system. Reducing these disparities requires action by health care organizations. Collecting accurate data from patients about their race and ethnicity is an essential first step for health care organizations to take such action, but these data are not systematically collected and used for quality improvement purposes in the United States. (Thorlby, Jorgensen, Siegel, & Ayanian 2011, page. 226). Unquestionably, eliminated racial disparities within the United States healthcare system is one of the most important objectives to accomplish by healthcare organizations. …show more content…
According to Groman & Ginsburg (2004), health care disparities exist among racial and ethnic minorities.
The American College of Physicians (ACP) provides evidence that minorities do not continuously obtain the equal quality of health care, equal access to health care, are less among the health professions and have poorer health status than non-minorities. (Groman & Ginsburg 2004), ACP finds the disparities in the healthcare of racial and ethnic minorities to be a major problem in the U.S. health system and is dedicated to working toward eliminating all disparities in health care by addressing the issue on 6 fronts: increasing access to quality health care, patient care, provider issues, systems that deliver health care, societal concerns, and continued research. ( Page. 226). Undoubtedly, one of the missions of the ACP is to eliminate racial
disparities.
In order to become culturally competent, health care organizations must increase their appeal to minority consumers and subsequently enlarge their market share. “Racial and ethnic minority Americans constitute a large and growing part of the healthcare market. Minority groups accounted for 70 percent of the total population growth in the decade between 1988 and 1998. Four of ten Americans will belong to a racial or ethnic minority group by 2030”. (Brach & Fraser 2002, page. 4). For that reason, healthcare organizations must understand that the diversity amongst consumer offer a great opportunity for increased revenue so it is essential to develop a marketing strategy that attracts the minority of the group.
Definitely, Racial and ethnic differences should not exist. In the following Bible verse is the representation of God’s thoughts .27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave[a] nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise. (Galatians 3:27-29, English Standard Version (ESV))
