Euclid Adult Activity Center Experience Paper

For my first service project, I went to the Euclid Adult Activity Center. Prior to working there, I felt excited to try something new. I did not know what it was going to be like and what I was going to experience. The EAAC is located on East 191st St in Cleveland. This is a place that lets the elderly in the community participate with each other. They can get out of their house for some time and exercise. They also get to talk to children and teens. Their mission statement is to support and empower people to live, learn, and work in the community. I served the elderly that were able to attend and have some fun. They were all so nice and caring. They wanted to know about me and my life. The patients face challenges by not interacting enough
with the younger generation. I did not know any of the clients before I began. It was EAAC’s annual summer picnic event. I helped prepare and serve lunch to the patients. I also prepared a couple activities that they were going to have fun with after lunch. I was able to offer the clients love and care. I sat down and talked to some of them and they recieved a look into my life as I did to theirs. I think that the greatest impact that this service had on me was that I realized how great the older generation is. They have so many stories that we can hear from them and a really good look into our future and what we will have to do. By helping at the EAAC, they benefitted from it because they were so grateful for my service. They are always looking for volunteers. They were so happy to see the younger generation helping out with activities in the community. Love and service were related to the service that I did. Through the service that I did, I learned that about myself that I can help whenever is needed. No matter how small the deed is, it is always appreciated. After completing the service, I felt really happy. I was so glad I did that. It meant a lot to everyone that was there.
