involved in some school activities such as the school newspaper and SADD. He thinks he wants to pursue a degree in Business.
Dream Colleges The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The UNC Greensboro remains a dream choice institution of higher learning owing to its robust programs. Degrees encompass a wide range of subjects, including business and administration for both undergraduate and post-graduate students (University of North Carolina, 2016). In addition, it is affordable, provides an opportunity for distance learning, and registers international students who have available funding options. New York University. Even though entering New York University proves more competitive as evidenced by the present trends of admission, it remains a coveted institution of higher learning for individuals with interests in business-related courses. As Hancock and Kolodner (2015) observe, New York University will be a key target for Juan given that it accepts undocumented students, scholarships, and online learning activities. Nonetheless, it has average requirements with competitive SAT scores of 450. Pomona College. Pomona College in California has demonstrated considerable interest in the best students irrespective of their citizenship status. It can be a dream college for Juan in that, despite being a private college, it provides admission for unregistered students coupled with every kind of financial assistance (Pomona College in Claremont, 2015). Equally, it does not classify students according to either international status, which means it does not separate them while reviewing their applications.
Target Colleges Appalachian State University. This university provides a range of classes for undergraduate students seeking a transfer in an affordable manner. Since Juan is a working student, Appalachian State University would be a key target as it accepts unregistered students, offers online transfer programs in business courses, and provides financial aid and scholarships for both the U.S. and non-U.S. citizens (Appalachian State University, 2016). University of Missouri. The Colombian university allows students to undertake over 90 undergraduate and post-graduate degrees online while guaranteeing exemplary resources of education to learners. It is one of the most popular and affordable online colleges whose students take a course at their individual pace without worrying over financial troubles. Besides, it enrolls undocumented students and can admit those with low SAT scores from 450 across the three subjects. Hamilton College. With its regional proximity, Hamilton College has higher acceptance chances of international students with reduced SAT scores of 450. According to College Simply (2016), the institution consistently takes composite scores for SAT students down to 450, below which admission remains a reach. To that end, it is a target college for Juan since it will provide an opportunity for staying close with the family as well as financial assistance and part-time classes.
Sure Bet Colleges Vassar College. This is one of the institutions of higher learning with high acceptance rates within New York City with diverse characteristics (Navarro, 2013). To begin with, it accepts overseas and average high school students, provides financial aid, does not classify learners as international, and offers online learning that will allow Juan to continue the work and school. Additionally, Juan can apply for admission in this college for it offers business courses that are in line with his vision of attaining a master’s degree in business (College Simply, 2016). Tufts University. Located near Boston, Massachusetts, Tufts University has shown commitment to equal opportunity, accessibility, inclusion, and diversity for all students. Besides, it welcomes all undergraduates notwithstanding their citizenship status. It treats international students identically as U.S. citizens. Further, the university has a higher acceptability of students for its admission does not entirely reflect individual SAT scores but considers other capabilities. As such, Juan can be rest assured that an application to this institution would be successful, at least considering the availed admission requirements. Emory University. Despite being a private institution, Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, provides an exemplary experience for non-U.S. students after the approval of their DACA status by the federal government (Emory University, n.d.). Equally, the university meets a significant percentage of demonstrated financial need among all admitted students, whether documented or undocumented (Emory University, 2016).
Letter of Recommendation: Juan #5
To Whom It May Concern,
It is prudent to overemphasize the significant contributions that Juan has made in his preceding school and the neighboring community.
I find it easy to recommend him for admission to your business program, as he is one of the exceptional learners I have met in my educational life. Given his previous record, Juan’s SAT performance is an unfortunate since that it does not reflect his academic aptitudes. He has taken keen steps in learning the French, English, and Spanish languages, achieving exceptional results in the tests. Juan is a sharp, devoted, and a nippy character with an inclined zeal for taking his master’s degree in business. He has a dream to understand how the business environment operates, and has shown significant involvement in school activities, including school newspaper and SADD. As a child to immigrant parents, Juan has come to terms with the experiences of immigration and produced a semester-long paper on the treatment of Spanish-Americans in the U.S. in the wake of WWII. Juan has a great capacity to connect with the past and present based on his comprehensions of current issues in historical context. Equally, his ability to deal with ambiguity both in academic and personal life situations further merits his ambition in the business world besides remaining a motivated
activist.
Even though Juan is an international student, he has attained DACA status offered by the federal government. In this way, he has demonstrated interests in achieving his higher education in the U.S. colleges. Juan believes in business development and working for mutual benefits. His individual experiences and profound grasp of concepts serve his advocacy role. Besides, he is talented, confident, and a bright student with a complete sense of charisma, strong values, and respect for others. I am looking forward to witnessing all the good that Juan continues to achieve in college and beyond. In a snapshot, Juan has my greatest recommendation for admission to your institute. Thank you, Stephanie Hernandez
