European Badger
(Meles Meles) The European Badger is an amazing specimen of God’s creation. I, personally, like them because they are the Hufflepuff mascot, and because they remind me quite a bit of myself - nocturnal, carnivorous, loves sleep (just not at night), very social and ferocious when angered. The Badger is a small, short-legged, small-headed, stockily built mammal with small eyes and a short tail. It’s strong claws are perfect for digging the large dens that the burrowing animal lives in. Burrows:
As I mentioned earlier, badgers are extremely social, and one badger den will often house many badger families, as well as other animals such as rabbits, raccoons and red foxes.

Latrines are located all throughout the burrows, and the badgers frequently change the bedding and sweep out all loose dirt and mess. Badger’s burrows will contain many different tunnels and rooms. On average one burrow will remain in use for several decades.
Diet and Lifespan:
Very fortunately, badgers are in no danger of going extinct, and they are in the ‘LC’(Least Concern) category, meaning that nobody is worried about them going anywhere anytime soon.
You may be wondering, “How heavy are these little guys?” My answer is that it really depends. In the Spring they can be anywhere from 15-29 pounds, but if you found a badger in the fall, it would probably weigh around 33-37 pounds.
Badgers are scientifically considered carnivores, and they eat earthworms, large insects, small mammals, carrion, cereals and root tubers.
European badgers live to be up to 14 years, and they stay with their families for most of, if not all of, their lives. A badger’s life is started by being born into a litter of roughly 5 cubs during the springtime, then nursed for 4 months.
Defense: As most of know most likely know, badgers can be VERY fierce when angered! So fierce, in fact, that making badgers mad is illegal. GO BADGERS!!!
