Evaluate a Significant Experience, Achievement, Risk You Have Taken, or Ethical Dilemma You Have Faced and Its Impact on You.
I still remember the first experience that I had at the Health Care Center and how it change me into who I really am right now.
As a volunteer with my high school friends, we were given the opportunity to attended and to help to explain how the program works. A woman named Kathy came and approached me. Although I could tell that she was exhausted, but she offered a warm smile as she greeted me . Afterward we began to walk towards the table, she informed me that she was a mother of five children, and this would be the first check up she's had in the last two years. Her story began to inspire me in more ways than I could have ever imagined. The most amazing aspect of Kathy was the joy when she talked to me about her children. Her dream was for her children to have a better education. Although she doesn't have enough money to take care of her children but she won't give up and always keeps up the hard work. We sorted out the perfect medications for each of her children and stacked them carefully in her bag. As she gathered her things to leave, she embraced me tightly and continued to thank me. She reminded me that this will mean the world to her children, and she could not even begin to describe how much my help meant to her. I smiled back with happiness . After the encounter with Kathy, somehow she reminded me of my own parents. I thought to myself. My parents gave up their life in Vietnam and came here for us to have a better future. They have been working so hard from early morning till dawn afternoon. They provided me everything that I needed. But instead I did not try my best. It made me realize that how lucky I am of having such a unique opportunity for a bright future. This led me to change my attitude towards school. Before that I thought school had no purpose, since I spoke different language. But I understand now! To be successful in life you have to have dream, be educated.
Through their hard work, determination and sacrifice; my parents and Kathy had impacted me a lot. They always reminded me to work hard because hard work always paid off, not instantly but sooner or later. Also they taught me to appreciate everything I have, and to never get carried away by money, to get an education and become someone in life. My goal should be to help those who are struggling as well, and support them to keep chasing after their dreams. My encounter with Kathy showed me that I could use my life story to lend a hand and make a difference.

As part of our school's community service program,I volunteered at a family with a down syndrome child. For two years, I went to help the Jablons every Thursday right after school.I helped out with a variety of things including homework, bathing the little ones, and physical therapy with Nesanel. Sometimes it seemed as though I was on the giving end, however I was really the receiver. I have learned so much from Nesanel. From his precious smile, his determination, and his love for others. Nesanel loves friends. He doesn't discriminate between people from different backrounds or color. Nesanel is truly special. Working with him and his siblings has given me a new outlook on…

Everyone had different disease or injury and there were numerous medicines that had to be classified. Everyone had to work for hours and hours until all patients were treated. In addition, there were many obstacles that we had to overcome. The hospital was not developed and modern as it is in Korea there were many technical difficulties, however, under God's grace and blessings, we were able to surmount the challenges again. After the medical service was over, we visited different places and handed out gifts to little children. As I handed out gifts, I saw the pureness and happiness amongst children in their eyes. I thought that this part of the trip was one of the most precious and blessed time. I realized why our God loves children so much. They did not have any ambition, worries, or sinful thoughts but was full of joy and purity. At the same time, I looked back on myself. I felt like I was adjusting to today's society, forgetting the true values: love, trust, and care for not only God but everyone in this world. Additionally, this trip helped me get one step forwards in determining what I should be doing in the future as a God's…

Which was where we talked about Christ and the Bible, and listened to the different stories from the kids, and everything that they had been through. Introducing them to a man that could change them and their lives for ever was amazing because they asked so many questions and some of them weren’t as positive as others, because they didn’t believe in him but in most situations the kids had never even heard of someone named God, and being the person to introduce him to them was amazing and incredible. Olsen. My reading level slowly got better and better. By third grade I was still pulled out of the classroom but instead of just being Mrs. Olsen and me, there were also other kids that struggled with reading too. In the beginning of fourth grade, I was tested to see if I would go back into reading recovery again. I passed the test with reading levels above my grade so I graduated from reading recovery. Mrs. Olsen changed my life because now I love to read and before reading used to make me hate having to go to school. I never thought anyone would be able to make that big of an impact on my life but she did. That made me want to become a teacher and make a difference in someone life like she made in mine. A problem today is that there are tons of students that don’t have the extra help or teachers that are willing to do everything in their power to make that difference for the student. I would like to help solve this problem by becoming a teacher and give my students everything I can to help them and hopefully make a different like Mrs. Olsen made. Not being able to read ended up teaching me to never give up, things take time, and the best way to have a problem solved is to find someone that is willing to help make a difference and stick with it. I found a problem in my life and now I am ready to make a difference and solve that…

This organization helps cancer patients find needed bone marrow donors. Finding donors are very difficult and finding matches are even more unlikely. This event made me realize how fortunate I was. I began volunteering more regularly with the same organization as well as places such as Food-share and a retirement home with residents who have memory loss. SAM and the retirement home mattered the most to me because I have close relatives who have schizophrenia and have died from cancer. Volunteering with these organizations made me realize how fortunate I was and inspired me to keep striving. This gave me a new perspective on life and I became more optimistic and outgoing. In addition to volunteering, I found a job, I began weightlifting, and I became much more social. In changing the way I think, I learned that life continues and that I still have time to improve myself.…

I’m always honored to do a flyer for ministries that have the goal of reaching those that are lost. I tend to put more time and effort into them than my other projects, because of my love for Jesus Christ. I decided I would start to attend these community sessions on Monday it was only for an hour from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. In the first session I was asked to pray for those that came and I did. This group reminded me of how I was when I came to Christ I wouldn’t let anything stop me from getting feed spiritually. Some of them were teenagers, others singles, some families, it was beautiful to see them desire more of God in their lives; hear the questions and then fellowship with them once the word was given, prayer ended.…

Spending time in clinicals with this woman in particular, helping her with her daily routine as well as getting to know her on a personal level developed a bond I will never forget. This woman, 96 years young, was full of wisdom and didn’t hesitate to share it all with me. Through this experience I learned what it meant to be a health care provider and truly care for the person I was helping, even when I had never met them before. I’ll never forget the last day of my clinical rotations as I stopped by for a final goodbye to each of the patients I had helped care for and their reactions. Everyone I had helped was more than grateful for my time spent with them, but Beatrice, my last stop before leaving Toledo hospital, broke into tears telling me how I was the hardest worker she had ever had and how much she would miss our time together. It was that moment that I realized this is want I needed to do with my life and that making a difference in someone’s life through healthcare would be the ultimate high.…
