Something that has always caught my interest that seems to be a big topic going around is marijuana use. Colorado has made it legal to smoke marijuana recreationally where as other states just have it for medical use right now. I personally believe that it should be allowed to be used by whoever whenever. If they can find it legal for people to use for medical reasons why should it be illegal for people to use recreational? “Smoking cannabis is not more carcinogenic than tobacco. In 2007, Harvard researchers published a study that shows THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, reduces tumor growth in lung cancer by 50%. In 2012, researchers at the University of California San Francisco found that moderate cannabis smokers are no more likely to get lung cancer than non-smokers, compared with a huge increase in likelihood found in tobacco smokers.”1
It has been proven that smoking marijuana can help you in more ways than one. There are certain things in marijuana that can help certain people. So why should something that can help tons of people especially those who cannot afford things like insurance or to go to a doctor for a proper diagnosis be told they can’t do something recreationally to possibly help them. “The herb appears to have analgesic, antiemetic, anti-inflammatory, sedative, anticonvulsive, and laxative actions. Clinical studies have demonstrated its effectiveness in relieving nausea and vomiting following chemotherapy treatments for cancer. The herb has also been shown to reduce intra-ocular pressure in the eye a beneficial action in the treatment for glaucoma.”2
I didn’t want to go too much into detail as to why I believe that marijuana should be legal because that could be a ten page paper but this is just a grasp of why I believe it should. As far as my references and why I chose those is really simple. Not only did it come from the university
