July 23, 2008 an odd and creepy grey “creature” washed upon the Ditch Plains beach, close to East Hampton. It looked like a cross between a turtle and a pig. What was it? Where did it come from? This “creature was called the Montauk Monster and it has been rumored to have come from Plum Island Animal Disease Center, a center not far from East Hampton. This Montauk Monster was said to possibly be an experiment from the disease center.…
In conclusion, all nurses, no matter what degree they obtain play a very important role in patient care and in our health care system. In order to improve the nursing profession, it is important to encourage continuing education for all nurses. The focus of healthcare should always be patients first. The qualifications may be different between the BSN and the ADN but when it comes to patient’s safety, there should be no differences. All nurses should enjoy and love what they do and have great compassion for their patients.…
My theory is that the more education a nurse has the better he/she can be at their job of taking care of patient as a whole and on a complex level.…

There is a significant need to increase the education level of all nurses. Ongoing nurse education must be continuously available and provided. Learning at a higher level of education and learning new skills would then provide greater job satisfaction and motivation to the nurses that are currently experiencing fatigue and deter fatigue from those who have not yet encountered it. Emphasis on learning would lead to nurses understanding the value of higher education and lead them to continue their education.…
As health care advances so should nurses. Nurses need to be encouraged at the educational to be lifelong learners. As patients present with more complex problems nurses need to have the most up to date education and training available. Nursing education needs to be updated and adaptive enough to change with patients changing needs. Nurses need to have the most up to date technology and science so that quality evidenced based care can be provided. Facilities need to allow and even promote advancement. There need to be educational opportunities that are easy to transition from Associate Degree to…
Education is needed after a nurse is licensed, to develop the idea of life-long learning in our profession. Examples of this are Licensed Practical Nurses, (LPN) -to-Registered Nurses (RN), Associate Degree Nurses (ADN) -to- Bachelor of Science Nurses (BSN) and BSN-to Masters of Science Nurses (MSN) transitions. There has become a desperate need for more Advance Practice Registered Nurse Specialist (APRNs). Our health care system is ever changing; science is advancing leading to more skills needed to provide safe and effective care. Patients are more complex, sicker and require more efforts; time and mostly more educated nursing personnel. When the education system improves, nurses can easily progress academically. The Government can help with creating more options to make continuing education more feasible financially. School…
Reflecting on the past two years of nursing school, my philosophy of nursing has been reshaped from when I had first started the nursing program. Though the fundamental aspect of my philosophy has not changed, my horizon has been broadened to see the beauty behind the nursing profession. Florence Nightingale once said that “Nursing is an art, and if it is to be made an art, it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation, as any painter 's or sculptor 's work; for what is the having to do with dead canvas or dead marble, compared with having to do with the living body, the temple of God 's spirit? It is one of the Fine Arts” (Bolen, 2009). I had almost said the finest of Fine Arts.” Her belief in the nursing profession has been the core reason for most of my beliefs. Through the academic studies and hands on…
I believe in the importance of continuing education in nursing. To continue giving proficient patient care, it is important to remain educated on current research and evidence based practice, keeping licensures and certifications current. According to Randell, Tate and Lougheed, "it is important to reflect what we do as nurses so we keep learning" (p. 62). This allows patients to receive high quality nursing care.…
I’ve always had a passion for the healthcare field; especially the restorative, emergency response, and geriatric aspects of healthcare. My family definitely influenced my passion. My mother was an ER Tech for 6 years and recently became a LPN. And my grandmother was a CNA and an Activities Director. My mom and grandmother loved their jobs and their stories inspired me to pursue my nursing career.…

For this paper I am interviewing my friend's mother who lives down the street from me. Her name is Kimberly Addison and she is a registered nurse in the State Of California, who acquired her registered nursing license August 31st 1987. She has experience as a hospice nurse, Charge nurse, trauma nurse, Head nurse of the ER and Director of Nursing. One of the first questions I asked Mrs. Addison was that if I wanted to take up nursing what should I do and what are the primary requirements. She responded by saying, “perspective nurses should complete a diploma program or an associate, bachelor's degree program in nursing. She told me all nursing programs require students to take courses in anatomy, physiology, chemistry, microbiology, psychology and social behavioral science”. When you have completed completion of state approved training programs and the passed the national Council licensure examination for register nurses you will be recognized in the medical community as an entry-level registered nurse. She also mentioned when you first start out you will be evaluating and implementing care also administering medication according to the orders by the doctor. She also mentioned that when she was training as a nurse’s aide her nurse that was training her taught her that assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation are the core principles then you will carry with you no matter what type of care you provide as a nurse or a physician.…
The articles make us accountable for our education, “nurses should practice to the full extent of their education and training.” (Institute Of Medicine [IMO], 2010, p. 2) The article goes on to say also that nurses should achieve higher levels of education in order to provide delivery of safe, patient centered care. Patient needs are becoming more complex and competencies may be in order to maintain adequate knowledge to treat these illnesses. (IMO, 2010) Nurses need to take an active role in redesigning healthcare in the United States, many things are changing and everyone in the health care field needs to work together in order to positively change the system. These ideas are already affecting my nursing as it motivated me to finish what I have started and to put one hundred percent of myself into my education. These ideas challenge me to reach a higher potential than initially envisioned through this…
When people think about nursing they see nurses care about sick people, but this is more about nursing. Today’s a society views nurses only as part of hospital. Part of nursing standard of practice is patient education, advocacy, and coordination of care and health maintenance (Gordon, 2002). Nurses are well educated and can work in different areas of healthcare if both the economy and politics allow them to.…
