Solar energy is lauded as an inexhaustible fuel source that if free of pollution and has very few adverse effects on the earth. An example states that big windows placed on the sunny side of a building allow sunlight to heat absorbent materials on the fllor and walls. These surfaces then release the heat at night to keep the building warm. Similarly, absorbent plates on a roof can heat liquid in tubes that supply a house with hot water. (National Geographic) In my own life, I have experienced the amazing power of solar energy. As a small child growing up in Guyana, South America, I remember taking cold showers in the morning. By the afternoon time, the sun would heat up our plastic, Rubbermaid water tanks and I would experience for a short period, ‘hot water.’ Of course, this has improved over the years, and many households in my country choose to apply solar water heaters to their homes. This helps to save on electricity and other costs.
