Khairuldeen Makhzoomi, a UC Berkeley student, was removed from a plane ride for speaking Arabic while speaking on the phone on April 14, 2016 (Wang 1). He thinks that he was falsely reported by another passenger and states that these types of actions make Americans feel even more terrorized by Muslims and lead to more conflict with the Islamic State (Wang 1). Two days later, a Maryland woman was also kicked out of an airflight for no apparent reason and believes it was because she was wearing a hijab (Pitts 1). Because of this a Muslim advocacy organization has taken action against the Southwest Airlines for making false assumptions of Muslim Americans (Pitts 1). Many Middle Easterners view the United States as a threat to them and disagree with the way Americans have responded to the terrorist attacks (Spurlock 1). They argue that they are falsely accused of being terrorists and some create more violence in order to keep Americans out of their countries’ affairs. For example, Morgan Spurlock, a documentary filmmaker, went around the Middle East searching for Osama and was treated hostile by many Jewish people who felt they were being treated unfairly (Spurlock 1). Differences in cultures have led countries to make false accusations of each other and create more conflict than they had before like the West and Islam being unable to resolve their differences because of their mixed responses to 9/11 (Said 665).
