Sula and Nel were the best of friends so when Nel catches Sula sleeping with her husband Nel was in denial. Sula and Nel were so close that Sula did not feel the need to put on clothes unlike Nel’s husband who was scrambling to get on clothes. Sula continues the affair with Jude until she becomes bored of him and moves on. Her disregard of her best friends feelings shows that she is malicious and only cares about herself. The title character of the Novel Sula is portrayed negatively leading the reader to assume that she is evil. Generally title characters in novels are illustrated to be good hearted individuals who care about important topics this is the opposite of Sula. Toni Morrison did what many writers do not by making the title character evil. Morrison depicts Sula as one who has no value for human life she destroys relationships allows people to die that she might be able to save and only worries about herself.
