Evil In Toni Morrison's Sula

In most novels the main character is usually kind and portrayed favorably. In Toni Morrison's’ novel Sula the main characters actions lead the reader to believe she is evil. The first controversial action occurs when Sula does not help a child who is drowning. Sula then does nearly the same thing when she does not do anything to help her mother when she catches fire.
Then when Sula returns to Bottom after ten years she sleeps with her best friend’s husband and feels no remorse. In the novel Sula by Toni Morrison the title character Sula is depicted as evil due to some of her controversial actions. Sula lets a young child drown leading the reader to assume she has no value for human life. Sula was playfully swinging around Chicken little, a five year old boy, by the river but she lets go and lets him drown in the river. Sula makes no
Sula and Nel were the best of friends so when Nel catches Sula sleeping with her husband Nel was in denial. Sula and Nel were so close that Sula did not feel the need to put on clothes unlike Nel’s husband who was scrambling to get on clothes. Sula continues the affair with Jude until she becomes bored of him and moves on. Her disregard of her best friends feelings shows that she is malicious and only cares about herself. The title character of the Novel Sula is portrayed negatively leading the reader to assume that she is evil. Generally title characters in novels are illustrated to be good hearted individuals who care about important topics this is the opposite of Sula. Toni Morrison did what many writers do not by making the title character evil. Morrison depicts Sula as one who has no value for human life she destroys relationships allows people to die that she might be able to save and only worries about herself. If Sula was good hearted would she have attempted to save the drowning boy or her burning
