The improvement in technology has come such a long way in the last forty years. Comparing improvements in cars, televisions, computers, and cell phones is quite an easy task to do. The biggest technological improvement would have to be the cell phone with its major differences in appearance, and its usefulness/capability. Even in just the last few years there have been major changes to the cell phone, but comparing the first cell phone to todays is like comparing a caveman to a rocket scientist. On April 3rd, 1973, the very first cell phone call was made by a man named Martin Cooper. Martin was using a Motorola DynaTAC 8000x, or as most people know as the very first cell phone. At first glance the 8000x basically looked like some big brick that someone would place to their ear. Holding it was no different. The 8000x weighed in at about two and half solid pounds, which is how it actually got the nickname “the brick”. The “brick” had a single line, text only LED screen, not to useful. Not only was this giant thing a pain to carry around but was also a whopping $4,000. Much more than nearly everyone is willing to pay for a phone at this point in time. However, todays cell phones are way beyond that of which they were. Looking at today’s phones is like looking at art. Most come with large mega pixel touch screens, an ultra-thin body and many different colors to choose from. Unlike the 8000x some phones weigh in today at just a few ounces. The new technology has come so far as to make what was once a big brick in your hand into a truly portable device that can fit in your pockets.

Another major improvement in the cell phone is just the way it works. From the very first call made in 1973 it took Motorola another ten years before releasing the 8000x to the public. The big thing was if you purchased the 8000x you were now able to make calls from cell phone to another cell phone, however, there weren’t even close to as many phones to call towards as there
