Make a Difference
My family just relocated to a new house three years ago. My father put a lot of efforts to decorate our new house. From selecting the decorating materials to design the decoration, he worked with the construction team, and was involved in every link that was essential in the constructing process. When the first day I stepped into our new house, I was amazed by the magnificent decoration in front of me. The gleaming crystal lamp hung under the ceiling; the luminous marble floor reflected my surprised face; the sun shined the room through the French windows. The most appealing part for me in the house was an exquisitely sculpted relief. The huge relief was made of stone and carved with an ancient Chinese image. I could not help stopping and gazing the sculpted relief every time when I passed it, but I never thought where it came from.
During the summer vacation of my second year in high school, I got a chance of being a volunteer teacher in a rural area. I was so excited since it was my first time being a teacher. The place I was going was totally strange for me, so I searched online to gather more information about rural area. It was called Taishan Village, which was located in Henan Province of China. People in Taishan Village depended on quarrying stones for their livelihood. It was a poor and backward place that lacked teaching resources; that’s why we were there.
I prepared the lectures, handouts, daily supplies and got everything ready for the journey, then left for the village with expectation. I just remembered I started by air, transferred to a train, changed to a car, and finally arrived the place after ten hours. I first arrived at the shack that I was going to live in during my voluntary period. The shack was so old that it looked like it would break down at any time.
