It is an indoor place with tables, and chairs, on the left side in the room with two flat screen televisions mounted on the wall on both sides of the room. As one enters the facility there is an area for patrons to empty trays; one could grab napkins and condiments. There is a counter with four metal bar stools facing the window towards the street. Two sofas in the middle of the floor for individual to sit and relax while waiting for their order read the newspapers, magazine or utilize the electronic devices. Alongside the wall are two refrigerators containing water, orange juice, coconut water, and a …show more content…
variety of sodas such as ginger ale, Pepsi, and other drink with names written in another language. A counter goes half way around the room. On the top of the counter close to the cashier is a tray with gums, healthy snacks bars. In front of the cash register is a holder for business cards. There is also business cards for the establishment. I took a card, and it indicated buy six smoothies and the seventh one free. Another refrigerator has items for salads such as lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, beets, olives, and broccoli, red, green, and yellow peppers. On the top of the refrigerator is a variety of dry nuts in jars, cherries, and other assortments. Additionally, a tray with a broad range of muffins, also a warmer with pastries. The cuisine is juices and delicatessens. It offers a variety of juices, coffee, teas, salads, sandwiches, and a variety of hot meals. It makes different types of smoothies. It serves an array of items for breakfast, lunch and caters to the local corporation in the area. The staff consists of five people, but I realized there are four individuals behind the counter. One is working the cash register and answering the telephone. An African American lady is making the juice drinks. A young man is tending to the grill, the older woman reading the printout from the computer and making the salads and sandwiches. The backgrounds of these individuals are unknown, but they speak a foreign language. These are an older gentleman and woman, a young lady and a young man.
I approached premises of the shop and realized there are only African American male and a Caucasian male sitting at a table in the corner and starring at the television.
Both these individuals have a tray in front of them with a sandwich on a plate, cups containing drinks. There are six people already on the line waiting for service. Some individuals ordered coffee, sandwiches, salads, and juice drinks to go. I started reading the menu board so; I could decide what to order when I got to the counter. I saw they had a soup of the day. As I entered into the shop people were already standing in line, they were reading the menu board. On there, it had the soup of the day, sandwiches, condiments, salad, and the prices next to each item. I placed my order and paid. I decided to take a seat in the corner close to the entrance of the shop, so I can see the patrons when they enter the facility.
The ambiance there was set by the tone of the televisions playing in the background. For the first minutes, I looked at the environment to get a feeling of the atmosphere and to look at the menu. I realized different customers are entering the shop. Five people are sitting at different tables eating their
food.
There are certain amounts of energy emitting between staff and the patrons. There is an array of talking, laughing, pulsating noises of machines, blenders, cash register, and the grill. The place has an aroma of food. People are laughing and engaged in conversations while standing in the line. Some people are trying to decide what they should order as they wait their turn in the queue. The queue is getting longer as the Caucasian lady at the counter trying to decide what to order. There are ten more people on the line at this time. I counted eight people standing and waiting
Although the people had to wait in the line and for their order, no one seems to complain about waiting. No signs of worries, anxiety, or agitation from the patron’s people were looking at their cell phones. Everyone was respectful and gracious towards the staff and the other patron although it was a long line and a wait for the others.
I decided to observe the people waiting and realized some individual had on the sign indicating Juror on there clothing, some other individuals had on employee identification badges, whereas others seem to have know identification. Apparently, some of the patrons in the shop ordered their lunch. It is crowded, and few seats available. Five of the individuals, decided to take the food to go. One woman said, she had to get back to work, and she only had a few minutes remaining for lunch, but she have to eat at her desk. A Hispanic man said, oh don’t worry, “ I am going to stay here and it, I am not in no rush. At times, people are entering and leaving because it is so crowded. It was standing room in the shop. People were patient, not sure if they were hungry, upset or just decided to wait their turn. As a young lady placed her order, I heard her asked the cashier, why is it so crowded? The clerk, responded, the place next door closed last week and everyone seems to come here for lunch. The clerk smiled, and replied it is all good”, and we can handle it. When the order is processed the clerk calls out the name, indicating "your food is ready". The customers approach the counter and grab their brown bag or tray and say, Thank You". I wondered if these individuals were in tune to the events and what was happening in the shop. The persons who entered the store seem to be in their world. Headsets are in their ears, people holding the cell phone to their ears, some looking down texting or reading their messages.
