MK: I think we have done what we should have been doing. We’ve met those expectations, but we still have higher ones. Our goals are to continue to get better so that we are focused and have a drive towards a chance to compete for a section title, not just a league title. We know that we are always going to compete for that. Our goal is to make sure that we are competing for the next level too, and that takes special teams and special people on teams to make sure that you are pushing for that all the time.
CE: The playoffs are coming and your team should be one of the frontrunners for a section title. But that was the thought last year and you guys were put in division IV instead of division V. She’s hitting well over .500 and is leading the team in RBIs. And she’s doing all of that as a sophomore. Has her outstanding production taken you by surprise at all?
MK: No. I feel like she’s a top-notch hitter in our league and our section. It’s just a matter of believing in herself that she is that person. Being young, I don’t think she was sure that that’s where she should be. But, that’s where she belongs as far as where she’s at right now. Obviously, she had a good year last year. I think she’s more confident in herself with her role on our squad and in our program.
CE: Over the past few years, Linden has been the team Calaveras has been fighting for the top spot. While that is still the case, Amador really has been playing well. And like your team, they have a bunch of young players, especially freshman pitcher Katie Combs, who has an era under three and is hitting over .500. What are your thoughts on the rise of
