    Violent video games are a form of popular culture that is very controversial in the world today. Various professionals and the society members have argued over the issue of violent video games especially on how the games should be restricted or prohibited to limit their use among the youths. These controversial arguments about violent video games make this kind of popular culture an interesting and important topic for popular culture research. For instance, debates have risen over the use of graphic violence in the video games. Studies have indicated that the individuals who participate in playing video games are much likely to be addicted to the games. Moreover, the studies have indicated that the continued participation in violent video games results in individuals developing forms of aggressive behaviors in their real life situations.     After review of the publication, Game On, a Harvard Health Letter, I discovered that the social and cultural ramifications of video games are of high debate upon many parents and adults. Games are played by people of all ages and sexes but the vast majority of “gamers” are teenage boys. This is worry some considering they are attracted to action games with bloodshed, violence and explicit content. In Grand Theft Auto, a best seller, the players sell drugs on the streets while shooting at gangs and buying prostitutes, what we in America consider violent behavior. Thirty years of research prove that media violence promotes aggressive behavior in young people however, due to the amount of additional underlying factors which can be ruled in such as substance abuse, cultural beliefs, abusive parents and innate personalities, it is very hard to establish a direct connection between the violence stemming from these games and other things. Through research of brain scans they have proven that thoughts of aggression and violent shooter games will activate the brain in a similar way however, directly showing a link to the games and violence in the real world has not yet occurred.     On April 20, 2010 the Gulf of Mexico experienced what president Obama called “the worst environmental disaster in American History”, a Deep water Horizon oil rig exploded, releasing barrels upon barrels of oil into the gulf (Hertsgaard 1). This disaster, also known as the BP. Oil Spill, gushed out oil for over 2 months. The oil spill caused 11 fatalities, not to mention the lives of aquatic and coastal animals, the destruction of ecosystems, the downfall of tourism and fishing industries on the gulf, as well as the Hefty clean-up cost. Debts need to be paid and changes need to be made to ensure this horrific disaster never occurs again, but that dose not mean the United States needs to completely abolish the use of fossil fuels. The untied states is the worlds largest oil consumer, using more than 1/3 of the worlds oil (Altars 8). The majority of America’s oil is used to make gasoline for cars and other motor vehicles, it is also refined to generate electric power and diesel engines (Altars 6). If the United states were to extinguish the use of fossil fuels and switch over to renewable resources the nation would be using resources such as wind power, solar power, hydro-power, and even biomass. These resources are considered to be environmentally friendly and and more beneficial for american foreign policy, but there are doubts that an all-out energy transition is currently the best choice for the United States. Renewable resources shouldn’t replace the use of fossil fuels in the United States right now because of high expenses, reliability, and existent technology.…

    Sixty-five students participated in the current study. The majority of the students were freshmen taking an introductory psychology course, and the mean age was 18.9 years. The sample demographic, 39 male and 26 female, was more balanced than expected. Of the 65 students surveyed, 33 (54%) reported playing video games “occasionally” within the past 30 days, while another 15 students (25%) indicated they played “often”; four students (6.2%) identified not playing any video games.
