Vaccinations are a necessity for the future generation’s well being and the cessation of deadly diseases. Vaccinations have proven to save the lives of children when given on schedule, as recommended by The American Pediatric Association (APA).
Although it has become a controversial topic, vaccinations have been said to cause autism and other health issues. There is scientific evidence that states very clearly there is no link between vaccines and autism. Vaccines are generally safe, although they can cause some rare, typically minor side effects. The (IOM) Institute of Medicine in 2011 concluded vaccines are not linked to autism or serious medical deficient, including Type 1 Diabetes. …show more content…
All 50 states have laws requiring children to be vaccinated against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis, generally in a DTaP vaccine, polio or IPV vaccine, and measles and rubella in MMR vaccine. There are ways to be exempt getting vaccinations. To be excepted there either has to be a medical exception, religious exemption, or philosophical exemption. An example of a medical exemption could be if you are allergic to any parts of the vaccination. An example for religious exemption would be if you were part of the Dutch Reformed Church. Members of this church had refusing vaccines going as far back as the early vaccinations for smallpox in the early 1800s. Most of this early vaccine refusal was because it has evolved into the formal belief that vaccines interfere with the relationship with their god. Because of this vaccine refusal, there has been paralytic poliomyelitis, measles, congenital rubella syndrome, and mumps outbreaks. In 2013, a major outbreak of measles hit a Dutch Reformed community in the Netherlands, with 1226 reported cases. Of the 1,226 cases, 176 (14.4%) had complications including encephalitis (1 case), pneumonia (90 cases) and otitis media (66 cases) and 82 (6.7%) were admitted to the hospital, which should debunk that belief that measles isn’t a serious disease. An example of a philosophical exemption would be just declining the vaccination altogether. The creator of the vaccination is Edward Jenner. He created the smallpox vaccine. This vaccine eradicated the disease completely.
In conclusion, vaccinations do not cause autism or any other medical deficits. Vaccinations should be mandatory for children, who go to school with other children because it can cause harm to others. There is proven facts that vaccinations have rare but mild reactions but are otherwise
