Furthermore, they most likely did not have the power or the military force to stop Hannibal had they wanted to do so. Moreover, should they choose to confront Hannibal, they most likely would lose all their economic gains in Spain after the First War. By fighting Rome, they were protecting their interests. A common misconception portrays Hannibal as the sole protagonist against the Romans, but the Carthaginian government also involved themselves in the conflict. Although they did not do as much as Hannibal during the war, the senate still helped in the war. Yet again, the Barcid faction triumphed over the impotent Hannonite…

From a snapshot of the Second Punic War, the Carthaginians defeated the Romans while under the consul of Gaius Flaminius. The battle is considered one of the largest and most successful ambushes in military history. The battle consisted of around 50,000 Carthaginian soldiers versus about 30,000 Roman soldiers. The aftermath of the battle produced well over 15,000+ lost soldiers for the Roman army while Hannibal only lost approximately 2,500 of his own. Despite the overview of the battle, much more can be examined when looking at the events leading up to the brilliant ambush set by…

In this literacy narrative, Blogs Are Not Pseudo-Diaries by Stacy Yi, Stacy talks about her experiences writing about her time spent in the Dominican Republic the summer after she graduated high school. The thesis statement of this narrative is “Far more interesting, though, was my hands-on education in the possibilities of travel journalism, and the freedom that comes with disregarding expectations.” Stacy talks about how there were lots of people who wanted to be kept up to date with her experiences while she was in the Dominican so she set up a blog where she could easily do so. At first she wrote mainly about how she was enjoying her time, posted some pictures, and wrote about missing home, the things she thought she should be writing about. Things she thought people wanted to read about. Stacy began to grow bored with what she was writing and the views on her posts were dwindling, she could tell her readers were becoming bored as well. Soon she stopped posting all together, she thought it was pointless. One day, she had a conversation with the oldest daughter of her host family and she knew she wanted to write about her and Stacy decided to post it. She started posting about local soccer games, restaurant reviews, disagreements she had with members of the family, things she really liked to write about. She felt better about the things she was writing, she felt satisfied. Stacy felt that writing day to day posts would provide a lot of information but not capture the feel of her trip to the Dominican. She felt that to make a good record of her trip she needed to write about things were relevant to her trip and in ways that fir the experiences she had.…
He is most remembered for marching an army of thousands which included war elephants, from Iberia over the Pyrenees and the Alps into the northern part of Italy. During the first years of his fifteen year occupation of Italy, Hannibal and his armies were able to take Trebia, Trasimene and Cannae. In addition he was able to build alliances with some Romans. However, Scipio of North Africa had spent time analyzing and studying Hannibal’s tactics, he added some of his own and launched a counter invasion from the Northern part of Africa. Scipio sent Hannibal and his troops back to Carthage where he and his troops were defeated at the Battle of…

He defeated the Carthaginians led by the legendary general, Hannibal at the northern city of Zama in Africa. By doing so, he ended the nearly 20 year old war. In this battle, the Romans were numerically deficient in infantry but where outnumbered in cavalry. After an extended skirmish between Rome and the Carthaginians, the light infantry and the mix of light infantry and war elephants deployed by Hannibal, and cause the man formations of the 2 sides to meet. Hannibal sends his army in echelon formation to envelop the roman flanks but ends up loosing the battle. The Battle of Zama was the last and decisive victory to the second Punic war. Zama was one of the three wars between Carthage and Rome and resulted in the destruction of Carthage and is annexed by Rome. A modern but similar battle to Zama was the Battle of Waterloo. Napoleon, another legendary general, led the French to battle against the English and their allies. Although Napoleon had a great reputation, Wellington, the general of the European side, proved to have more intelligence when he outsmarts Napoleon's plan and defeats the French. Both battles saw the final defeat of a famed and "invincible" military leader, Hannibal at Zama and Napoleon at Waterloo. Also, both battles were decisive battles in that they ultimately end the great wars. The Battle of Zama ended the 2nd Punic war and the Battle of Waterloo ended the Napoleonic wars. All in…

Rome sent us into battle with about 80,000 men. Hannibal on the other hand, arrived at the battlefield with about 40,000 infantry and 10,000 cavalry. Hannibal was very smart with how he planned out this battle. He managed to put us in a position where we were stuck, in a valley, with a river. We would not be able to escape, our mobility being restricted and especially because during the battle because Hannibal had his army lines facing north, while we faced the south and unfortunately in the valley, wind gusts blew our way resulting in dust and grit getting into many our men’s eyes.…
As stated before, the previous ban on horse slaughter in America expired in 2011 under President Obama. This ban made the slaughtering of horses in America illegal, however it still allowed horses to be shipped overseas to foreign countries to be slaughtered. This ban was never removed, it just simply expired. In 2015 a new bill to ban horse slaughter was introduced to congress. This bill is called The Safeguard American Food Exports Act, or (SAFE). This act would alter many acts such as the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetics Act, making all horse parts unsafe. This act in addition would also outlaw the export of U.S. horses and horse meat bound for slaughter and human consumption. Horse meat is most popular in France, Belgium, Italy, and Japan.…
