In this passage, I noticed the literary device of alliteration being used numerous times. Alliteration is the repetition of a sound at the beginning of a series of words. In lines 313-315, the "m" sound is repeated. "That mighty protector of men, Meant to hold the monster till its life...". I think that the repetition of the "m" sound represents the battle between Beowulf and Grendel and emphasizes good vs evil by saying "the mighty protector of men" and "monster". The sop expresses in vivid detail how the mead hall is constructed and it's strength and power that it holds. "Great bodies beating at its beautiful walls; Shaped and fastened with iron , inside and out, artfully worked, the building stood firm."(295-298). The sop describes the mead hall as "beautiful" and "artfully worked". Also, as the ferocious battle transpired, that the building stood firm and strong. It was a fierce battle between the two and as you can see, in the background, there is actually benches and furniture moved around and broken due to the battle. Also, the way that Beowulf is holding Grendel shows that good has prevailed and is victorious. I also really like how they portray Grendel as a dark, evil
