Volunteering is something we did lots in cheerleading.
It’s also such a good feeling knowing you did something for someone out of the kindness of your heart. Without going out in my community and working I would have never met the heaps of people I met either. I wouldn’t have additionally had the opportunities either to volunteer. For example, I had never gone to Relay for Life before. Each year our cheer team goes to Relay to help set up the luminaries and set them all around the track. I too got to have some fun and cheer on the walkers! Overall it was a great experience and I helped out a great cause. Relay also gave me a chance to learn how to save money, and by doing so I saved around $200 dollars for the cause. Being a cheerleader gave me insight on what kind of a person I was
moreover. We wear the same outfits and do our hair the same, but we have completely unique personalities. Cheering gave me this voice I never had before. I was never afraid to be loud after this experience. That really comes in handy now when I need to get someone’s attention. My future was also something I never thought about until I joined this team of girls. They are all very supportive and helpful, especially when it got down to what majors I thought about for college. Before cheerleading I honestly didn’t know if I would continue my education after high school. On the other hand since I had to juggle a sport, a job, and 7 classes I realized I could do anything I set my heart to. It was not a sport to me, it was a learning experience. It taught me to be a leader, to contribute to my community, pursuing my future, and learning about myself. Being a cheerleader was very educational for me. But most importantly, I had an immense time doing it.
