Beowulf against Evil Beowulf is the story of an epic hero with Germanic warrior characteristics. Beowulf, the main character in the epic poem, has epic strength and courage. In the story of Beowulf, Beowulf defeats three different characters of evil. First, Beowulf is against Grendel who has been eating the Danes. Second, Beowulf encounters Grendel’s mother who is after vengeance. Lastly, Beowulf fought a dragon that was angry because a slave stole a golden cup. Beowulf does possess heroic features and displays them through his actions. Although, with great strength comes weakness as well.     Beowulf begins as many epic tales do, by introducing the hero. The author tells the reader of how Beowulf has trekked oceans and slain monsters; right from the beginning it is made obvious that Beowulf is no ordinary man.
