Being cautious and prepared is key for interrogating suspects. The interrogation location should be free from distractions or interruptions. The interrogation room should be well lit and secure. It's important that the officer not ask close ended questions. Asking closed ended questions will lead to short yes or no responses. Asking open ended questions will lead to a broader response and more information will likely come out. Taking notes and recording the interrogation is also key. Although there are many types of interrogation techniques, the officers should discuss the role they will be playing before hand. They can decide which type of interrogation technique will bring out the best results. -WRITTEN AND INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION-METHODS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT By Harvey Wallace and Cliff Roberson(CHAPTER 9 PAGES 139-145)…

On the first half of the interview, Cox and Allison, were certain about their testimony. After long hours of interrogation, the two witnesses have complied with the police’s story to avoid conflict and to be released from custody. The witnesses have also become suggestible during the interrogation, they have answered falsely in some leading questions to please the interviewer. An interview with an should not give any kind of stress to the witness. The police should help the witnesses remember by keeping them relax and asking relevant questions instead of using the coercive Reid…
Such questions include; how he or she knew the victim. This would determine the relationship between the victim and the suspect, if he or she knew the suspect very well, in passing, or if he or she were just an acquaintance. Asking the suspect where he or she was during the time of the crime determines an alibi. After the questioning is completed, based on the answers he or she is either let go or detained until further notice from the…

This further illustrates that police officers can use multiple tactics other than simple questioning such as deception, a list of narratives, and open-ended questions. Suspects might admit that committing the crime for multiple reasons including mental illness, desire for attention, and to protect loved ones. Corroborated and nonpublic facts are based on police not disclosing facts to the public and how the confessions can be contaminated through the police or expert evidence can all lead to false confessions (Garrett,…
The pressure a witness feels in a lineup to choose a suspect can be a great one. Often times the witness looks to the police officer for guidance. When a witness is not sure they may identify a suspect and after ask the police officer how well they did and if they choose the right person. When conducting a lineup, a police officer should be careful not to give feedback or confirmation. When a police officer simply says “good job” even if the witness chooses wrong, it can cause a huge confident boost. When its time for the trial the witness is more likely to make the same mistake again (Clare, 2012, para. 7). When conducting a lineup, the police should use the Blind or Blinded Administration method. In this method the police officer does not know anything about who the suspect is. This will prevent any suggestive or…
The SIP interview is a recently developed ideal interview based on the same five stage PEACE guidelines and most updated techniques. However, for the purpose of this study not all stages were used as they hold little relevance outside a real life forensic investigation (i.e. planning and preparation, and evaluate). The engage and explain, account and closure stages were used, but slightly adjusted to match the context of this study. Thus, the administration of the SIP interview included rapport-building, appropriate and clear instructions, the predominance of open questions (e.g. ‘’Tell me more about X, Y, Z’’), no interruptions, the focus on mentioned topics, appropriate structure and closure. To ensure consistency between interviews, the administration of the SIP interview included two follow up questions on a topic already mentioned by the participant in relation to location, action or people’s description. Moreover, all participants were encouraged to add to the interview by being asked ‘’Is there anything else you would like to tell me?’’. Before starting the interview process with participants, the experimenter undertook three days of SIP technique training by the main creator of the protocol, Dr Fiona Gabbert. The SIP template used in this study can be seen in Appendix…

People live their lives hoping each day to be better than the previous one. They make short and long term plans; they take loans, buy houses, expensive cars and other things that make their life more comfortable. In other words, people expect an improved life in future, and they are ready for that. However, residence in this world is unpredictable, and unfortunately we don’t have the ability to foresee what vicissitudes of fate have been prepared for us. For this reason we must be ready to survive in case of sudden variations of our life. One of good examples how life can change any second and how difficult it becomes to survive is given in David’s Mamet’s story “The Edge”. The main characters in “The Edge”, an intellectual billionaire named Charles Morse, and self-satisfied fashion photographer Robert Green, have been stranded in the wilderness after their plane crashes in the freezing Alaskan woods. This sudden alteration of their life overtook them without any preparedness. On the other hand, billionaire Charles Morse had valuable knowledge, the will to survive and personal qualities that allowed him to stay alive in wilderness.…
Historically, eyewitnesses have played a crucial role in arrests and convictions in New York, and elsewhere. Law enforcement, judges and juries have relied heavily on the statements and identifications of witnesses because they were actually present for, or otherwise a part of, a criminal offense. Recent studies have shown, however, that eyewitness testimony may not be as reliable as it was long thought to be.…

In addition to skeletal muscle, this metabolic cooperation was also demonstrated between other extrahepatic tissues and liver. Indeed, like the glucose-alanine cycle, the glucose-lactate cycle is active between the liver and all those tissues that do not completely oxidize glucose to CO2 and H2O, in which case pyruvate for conversion to lactate or, by transamination, to alanine would lack (see below).…
