The texts, “Undaunted Courage” and “The Way To Rainy Mountain” depict the land as a spiritual entity that’s worth being worshipped and respected as shown by man’s praise of it. The way man, rather than exploit it for profit, respects the land through animism shows their gratitude for it. From the detailed descriptions that give the reader an illustration of what man has seen, it is clear to say that man had this religious relationship again, but was also in tune with the lay of the land.…

Thus, in the beginning, Henry fought along with other comrades during the first battle. Although he bosomed the sentiments as fear and uneasiness, everything was still new to him and it left him no time to react on his guts. However, after the early round of brutality, Henry savvied right enough that the reality and cruelty of the war would eventually end his life therefore he was intimidated, and it led him to flee from the second scene.…

Atticus believes in equality for all of men so he defends African American from prejudice, and even Tom Robinson in court. The 2007 Film Into the Wild tells the story of Chris McCandless, an unsatisfied college graduate who leaves his family and promising future behind to live a life of isolation in the Alaskan wilderness. While John Krakauer’s essay “Death of an Innocent” portrays Chris is an extremely heroic light by likening him to “a monk gone to God,” Into the Wild leaves much more room for debate by presenting Chris as selfish and detached. Chris, however, is not the only character whose actions can be interpreted as heroic or not. The peripheral female characters also act in ways that put themselves at risk. While the female characters take personal risks to fulfill their need for relationships, Chris takes selfishly motivated physical chances, ultimately disregarding all human relationships; this binary begs the question then of which is more heroic—truly caring about people and empathizing? Or being independent and avoiding emotional engagement?…

No one needs to be born with magnificent strength or the audacity to stand up to any bully that might come their way. Heroism is self built. To be heroic is to be passionate, to believe in the greater good, and to live without hate.…

I chose to read Bridge to Terabithia this summer because it sounded really good. And I was right!! I loved it. It had many types of courage but one in particular stood out to me. But he gets beaten by a new girl named Leslie Burke and they become best friends and they invent a land called Terabithia. They have a good time until something terrible happens to Leslie. And Jess uses the courage she gives him to persevere. Now, earlier I said that the type of courage that stood out to me was intellectual/emotional. There is this simple saying; be your own superhero. Throughout a persons life, he will face many obstacles and some he will overcome, while others he may not. A person creates many relationships with others, some people will love and accept him for who he is, others will not. Often, one will not know why his peers do not like him, or if they even have a motif to. At the end of the day, it is how a person carries himself, and what he does about it that makes him a stronger individual. In the poem, “There Will Be No Peace,” W.N. Auden advises an individual who has been singled out to act with courage and honesty. I have noticed myself, on occasion, without any support but my own, having to be my own hero and how my own validation has helped me grow. Acts of courage can often develop and nurture personal integrity because when an individual has been singled out by a group, and must rely solely on himself to figure out his morals, he builds confidence and with that honesty, enforcing what he will stand for.…
