Unhealthy Relationship
The Great Gatsby is a story that is based on a triangle that there are three characters involved in it. Daisy, that is married to Tom Buchanan yet she still in affair with her first true love Gatsby. Tom is also in affair with Myrtle Wilson which she’s married to George Wilson. Most of those characters lied, cheated on their mates. In this case we can tell how this story had the worst relationships in it.
Gatsby at the beginning of the novel lies about his past. He doesn’t say the truth. Whenever Nick asks him about the past, Gatsby tries to change the subject and avoid answering his question,
"Somebody told me they thought he killed a man once."
“You look at him sometimes when he thinks nobody's looking at him. I'll bet he killed a man." (Fitzgerald 78) Here Nick heard some rumors about Gatsby’s past and he was wondering But Gatsby has that personality that doesn’t really care hat do people think about him. If they believe or they don’t believe his words. The only thing that worry’s about is Daisy and how he can have her again. He would do anything for her.
Tom Buchanan is a prime example of how this book started with unhealthy relationship according to the book. In very early stages of the book will be obvious that Tom is having an affair with someone, and appearanty Daisy knows about it when the telephone ring in the middle of the dinner. Tom goes and talks to that “someone” on the phone meanwhile Daisy goes to the other room and tries to confront him. when she returns back to the dinner table she say’s ”It couldn’t be helped!....I looked outdoors for a minute and it’s very romantic outdoors ….It’s romantic, isn’t it, Tom?” (Fitzgerald 20). At that time Daisy realizes that everyone in this room knows about Tom’s affair , but she pretends that she doesn’t know and out of this knowledge.
