Journal 1 After reading the first third of the book The Catcher in the Rye, the main event that I thought had a huge impact towards the plot is the part where Holden goes off on Stradlater after his date with Jane. Not much actually happened so far in the book to determine the main event but I think this one had a huge impact on Holden’s life. Holden has liked Jane for a while even before she and Stradlater were together. She and Stradlater started dating and it made Holden go crazy. The thought of them being together drove him nuts. Although he isn’t at a great point in his life he knows that he has no idea about his future. He knows that he can’t spend the rest of his life by partying and drinking. He doesn’t want to change but at the same time he does. That’s why he wants life to stop so he can continue the way he’s living.
Journal 3 The book The Catcher in the Rye could send many messages out to different readers. J.D. Salinger's story The Catcher in the Rye, the theme is that even if you are surrounded by a lot of people you can still feel all alone. In the book the main character Holden tries really hard to tolerate people but he just can’t. He goes to clubs and hangs out with girls but he can’t be with the person he wants to be with. Teens all over the world face this issue everyday. Many people are not comfortable with being who they are because their in fear of being judged by people. It causes them to surround themselves with people who don’t even acknowledge their existence. In the book the main character Holden tries to get along with people but no one really becomes his friend. He chases after people he can't have. Holden got kicked out of school so he can’t go back there. He doesn't have that family background help
