Dominant readings are for the expected audience that is nearest to the readings of the media text, dominant readings are also how people react to something or how the producers of that product expected the audience to react to it. For example, if someone were to watch a TV show it would be because they’ve possibly experienced something that happens or can relate to it in some way (Stewart, 2008, P.149)
Negotiated
These readings are for the audience that disagree with the text, but can overcome this disagreement and make do a mental reasoning with that show (Stewart, 2008, P.149). For example, someone that just received a speeding ticket recently might like to watch a TV show like RBT or Gold Coast Cops but may still have some sort
of resentment towards Policemen.
