When a man asks “Where is god?” Elie ends up questioning himself and his faith and although he still has faith at this point he believes that god is not merciful but he is brutal and that god might want to teach people lessons: “Behind me I heard the same man asking: ‘Where is God now?’ and I heard a voice within me answer him: ‘Where is He? Here He is-He is hanging here on this gallows…”(Wiesel Pg. 65)
When Elie's father asks if he remembers madame Schachter he thinks about the first night of camp. How he shall never forget that his faith was stolen along with his dreams, hopes, sole, and his will to live. Faith is so important persuading whether you live with faith or die without a will to live. Showing that faith will overcome fear and become hope that will pull Elie through his hardship. This hope is not from the answering of God but from his will to live built on his faith and he will persevere.

Elie Wiesel uses the different views of his faith during his hardships showing how importants faith can be at different points. When hardships come people tend to get help from anything they can whether it be someone they didn't trust before the hardship or asking help from god during these times of hardship we must have something to rely on and we really need grit and will to strive those hard
