This shows something bad is going to happen on the island
Vera shivered that symbolizes that she was uncomfortable

Have you ever wished that you could see the future? While using foreshadow may not be the answer, it definitely gets close. Foreshadowing an event means that you are creating a scene that will help develop a different event in the future. One novel that brilliantly displays the use of foreshadow is Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck. Steinbeck is one of many authors that incorporates foreshadow numerous times in his novel. Though in this novel there are three particular events that help foreshadow the crucial events throughout this story.…

Foreshadowing can be overlooked when reading through a story the first time. It is not until one goes back and re-reads a story after knowing the ending that they can truly see the signs along the way. “A Good Man is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor has an unexpected ending but it comes as less of a surprise if the reader pays attention to the details in the story. In this particular story, O’Connor describes the way grandmother dresses, the graves, and the automobile that the Misfit drives. Those details may seem innocent during the first read-through but they are not missed when one realizes, at the end, their true meanings.…

Just from reading this quote, I can clearly tell that it is significant. For instance, the use of italics indicates importance to the word ‘there.’ The reader can see how this word is referred to negatively. When the nun emphasizes the word ‘there’ in the quote, Esperanza (the main character) says she feels like nothing. The place where Esperanza lives must be unappealing in order to cause her to feel this way. This also shows the impact Esperanza's home has on herself. Vivid imagery is also expressed by this quote. Details such as paint peeling and nailed windows indicate poverty. The author includes these details in order for the reader to infer that Esperanza and her family are poor. The fact that her family is poor may pose as a conflict later in the book. This quote also shows how the plot will develop. Plot is how certain events move along in the story.…

Another example of foreshadowing is when the prince says "your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace." Montague accepts this peace offering as seen that Romeo and Juliet's lives…
