Interestingly, the novel consists of a complicated pairing of notions: the juxtaposition of time – past and present – is linked very much with the association of mortality – life and death –, as past can be portrayed by war (death) while present by physical existence (life), with Clarissa Dalloway as one of the two characters who feel hyper-realistically the influence of the pair upon themselves. For instance, when Clarissa arrives at “Mulberry’s the florists” (11) to buy the flowers for her party, she fully enjoys the freshness and sweetness of life (symbolized by the flowers) at that moment mesmerized by the beauty of flowers laid in front of her eyes.     References: to light and dark throughout the poem mirror the persona’s transition from childhood to adulthood, evident in the repetition in “Ambiguous light. Ambiguous sky”.
