Examples Of Mistakes In John Proctor
John Proctor begins the novel as a man who has made mistakes and is trying to avoid further mistakes. The first thing that would characterize John as a villain is when the affair with Abagail is made known to the readers. This shows villain like characteristics because he has broken the trust of his wife and ruined the relationship with God by committing one of the sins listed on the Ten Commandments. Further into the novel we see that proctor is trying to turn things around but not full heartedly. He try's to earn the forgiveness of his wife by making sure she is content with everything he does. He turns Abagail away when she tries to rekindle the relationship they had. He also tries to have the court look at the mistakes they are making.

First, John Proctor was well-respected in many ways. One reason is how he was well-respected by the people in the community and how he respects them because he doesn’t speak upon anyone else’s sins nor their name. An example from the book is when John Proctor said “I speak my own sins, I cannot judge another. I have no tongue for it.” (131.) He feels that he doesn’t need to speak upon anyone else’s mistakes or accuse them of doing witchcraft. John Proctor is also well-respected because he is a hard-working man who is very independent and values honesty.…

I think the best case scenario for John Proctor is he is a man and for a long time his wife was sick, and could’nt give him what he desired so their love grew apart and he had to look elsewhere and he did’nt have to look very far and he looked toward his maid Abigale Williams for she was attracted to him and it made the whole incedent all the more harder to refuse and and then he realized the mistake he had made as his wife was getting better she shunned Abigale from her household, but Abby did’nt go quietly and she is still trying to minipulate John into leaving his wifeand it was making her more minipulative because she knew he would not leave his wife without somekind of “Brain Washing”. And that is how I think John Proctor is a very good, and honest man because he saw his mistake although it was to late he did’nt run from the problem or give into temptation he faced it like a strong man and starred it down in the face and dealt with the problem from it’s source.…

I have chosen to write my response on the fact that John Proctor has committed adultery with Abigail. I believe that John does not sincerely mean sorry for cheating on his wife Elizabeth. I think this because if he really meant it then he would be begging for her forgiveness and not just saying sorry and it is over now. Also if he really meant it then he would have an actual conversation about the situation and would like to hear her opinion on the problem.…

John Proctor is a very dynamic character who has an internal conflict between being righteous and falling into temptation. This character is very unique because he changes his personality throughout the story. I like John Proctor because he is a symbol of the common man because most men fall into temptation at one point in their lives. We all try to do well but we are all sinners and we need to learn from our mistakes. I can relate to this character because I to have fallen into temptation but turn to God to guide me and direct me in the right path.…

In the play, John Proctor is an ordinary farmer, who has proven himself a hardworking man, with a good name around the village of Salem. John is the type of man who often says what he believes and he does what his heart tells him to. In his past he has done a lot of good and bad deeds, but he is a human and humans do make mistakes for example, he had committed the crime of lechery with Abigail Williams. Abigail used to work at his house as a servant for him and his wife Elizabeth Proctor. Abigail is a two-faced 18 year old who causes a lot of mischief and she is in love with John and will do anything to separate him and his wife, just to take her place. John clearly regrets the mistake he had made in his life, and does his best to pick himself up and attempts to change things in his life. He is a smart man who is somewhat foolish, because from what I have observed, John puts more importance on the present than he does on the future. He is a kind man who is loyal to his wife and friends; he even blackens his own name for the sake of their lives. He is devoted to stop the hangings, and save the people who are accused.…

Throughout the play John is eaten by guilt and it makes him the thick headed individual that he is. But when circumstances throughout the play changes, it causes him to change into a man cares more about his wife than himself. It changes him into a man that forgives himself and has self-respect again. When Proctor says, “ I have known her, sir. I have known her”(Miller 1206). This is an indirect characterization that John Proctor has changed and that he has goodness in him. He was willing to give up the one thing he had left in life for his wife, his good name. Also when Proctor says “ I can. And there’s your first marvel, that I can. You have made your magic now, for now I do think I see some shred of goodness in John Proctor”(Miller 1232). This is direct characterization that reveals that Proctor has changed. That he is no longer a man eaten by guilt. He is an individual with goodness inside of him who has gained his self-respect again. He is finally at peace.…
