Doss was a Seventh-day Adventist Christian, combat medic and conscientious objector in the United States Military during World War II. What makes Doss a noncombatant, even though he was in the military, is that due to his religious beliefs he refused to kill or even carry a weapon into combat. Doss, for saving seventy-five men during the Battle of Okinawa, was awarded the Medal of Honor, being the first conscientious objector to obtain the medal. This shows that there is more to be valued in war than killing.
