The last example of obsessive behavior are “excessive fears, worries and anxieties.” In paragraph six and ten the narrator talks about the man’s terror. “Presently I heard a slight groan, and I knew it was the groan of mortal terror.” “ The old man’s terror must have been extreme!” The speaker fears the terror
of the old man and believes he hears it.
The narrator has been showing us signs that he is insane. He thinks he finds his careful actions as a very smart movement. In paragraph four the narrator says “Upon the eighth night I was more than usually cautious in opening the door.” The speaker thinks his careful actions make him look not insane but smart.
