Examples Of Pain In The Giver Society

¨Take pride in your pain; you are stronger than those who have none¨. (Lois Lowry). You may think that, the quotes means nothing to you. In reality it really does. The society we live in, we hold memories. In The GIverś society, they also hold memories but only one person does. Have you ever held a memory? Like getting your first dog? The Giver society and our society hold those memories to, just a little bit differently.

Although, The Giver society is different than ours, they have one person that holds there memories of color, pain, and even sunshine and snow. For Example, “Beyond, through the swirl of what he now, somehow, perceives was the thing the old man had spoken of- snow-he could look out and down at the great places”. The Giver gave him the memory of snow. In our society, we all know what snow, sunshine, color, and even pain feels and/or looks like. The Giver society don’t know what color, pain, sunshine, or even snow is. Our society, we all have the same memories, we all know what for etc. pain is.
For example, no one but The Giver and Jonas know what snow is. No one knows what a hill or a sled, sunshine, and even what color was. everything they see is black and white.
