Today, many Americans constantly worry about the effect of their eating habits on their weight and health. However, for much of the nineteenth century, most Americans were rarely concerned with the nutritional quality of their meals, and instead focused on eating as much as possible. According to Harvey Levenstein, author of Revolution at the Table: The Transformation of the American Diet, the inception of present-day eating habits has its roots in the “eating revolution,” which occurred between the 1880s and 1930s. At the turn of the twentieth century, the American middle class began to eat much more “economically and healthily,” than they had in the past. Levenstein attributes this change in food habits to both economic and social factors,…

This Quote actually relates to this book and many other books and movies. Every book or movies what has a journey or a task they have to do, this quote will always relate. In the alchemist, his journey was to find the treasure what he thought was in the pyramids and it was about the journey to them. He didn’t really have to much luck at the beginning but the most he got was people telling him the treasure was near the pyramids. Throughout his journey, the things he was tested on were things like people who to trust as he got robbed; working and saving money and have to earn more.…
There are many beliefs on if man is born evil or if society is corrupts man. The belief that man is born evil is a monstrosity. The belief that man is born good and is corrupted by society though, is not. Two famous philosophers will agree. They are Jean-Jacques Rousseau and John Locke. "Rousseau believed that through a society people become evil"(Mr. Hughes). "Locke believed that everyone was born with a blank slate and that what you experience determines [if] you're good or evil"(John Locke). Man is born good, with a clean slate and society is what corrupts man to evil, through the media, social groups, and peer pressure.…
Some people believe that fate determines everything that happens in your life. While others believe that your hard work is what makes you successful. Which one is right? Two authors, Emily Dickinson and Malcolm Gladwell have the same statement, but which one better states that “How much of our lives do we actually control?” Emily wrote a poem that is called “Luck is not chance” this poem states that you have to work hard to be successful. Gladwell takes the same side as Emily, but Gladwell’s stronger evidence leads people to believe that he is better at proving the question “How much of our lives do we actually control?”…

With only moments to decide whom he will save, Spider-Man is faced with the gut-wrenching decision to save either the girl he loves, Mary Jane, or the children screaming for help- both of which dangle hundreds of feet before their deaths by none other than the Green Goblin. Spider-Man quickly leaps to save MJ, catching her mid air, only to shoot his webs in which he swung both him and his lover to save the children immediately after. With MJ dangling to his body, his right hand holding the wire that held the children, and his left hand holding onto the web that held them from their deaths, Spider-Man heroically manages to put the victims…
The audience I would try to reach in regards to an alternate version of my persuasive essay would be the governments of the world that have taken advantage of America’s passivity in the world, such as China and Iran. By having them as my audience, it would send a message that America is not going to be a footstool anymore, and that whomever tries to step on or over will be dealt with accordingly. By seeing my work, maybe it would prevent them from taking specific courses of action because they too believe Donald Trump will bring peace through strength. While it could have the opposite effect on the intended audience in its persuasiveness, it would nonetheless get them out of their comfort zone and possibly rattled. I just hope that it does not go in the opposite direction intended, and create a situation where a country bans my alternate version, saber rattles America itself, or boycotts American products or people. They would find my work in multiple mediums, from underground newspapers, internet ads, and at film festivals.…
Due to the financial crisis there have been many changes made to government programs to reduce costs and help with debt. Many of these cuts are happening statewide, in America’s public schools. The first programs that are being cut are the art programs, and the excuse is that the core classes are more important. The argument is that children need to be more focused on test scores in Math, Science, English and History. It is unfair to single out art classes, there should be a more even spread of budget cuts, not just the sole elimination of the arts. There are parents who are indifferent with the arts and they are unfazed by their removal from elementary public schools. What many of these parents do not recognize is that there are actually benefits of the arts that help with core subjects. Some benefits are strengthening problem solving skills, stimulating critical thinking and helping developmental growth. There is also a duel component that shows that there is a direct correlation between SAT test scores and art programs in schools, as well as higher participation and attendance. It has also been shown that the arts can help boost the economy.…

Throughout The Alchemist, readers see a clear view of how they are to discover the meaning of life. The first is by discovering their personal legend. People are supposed to go out and seek their life’s destiny. The second is by defeating fear. There is nothing to fear but fear itself. We shouldn’t worry about the past or future. In fact, we should be focusing on the present. When we take the focus off of our fears we begin to focus on the present and realize what we’ve been missing. Paulo Coelho portrays two main themes throughout The Alchemist: pursue your personal legend and dangers come when you fear.…
