“ Inside the house lived a malevolent phantom.” (page 9) This quote shows that the kids don’t look at Boo as a regular person. For example, “ People said he went out at night when the moon was down, and peeped in windows.” This shows that the children believed that Boo was a creep. Remind you the
children never had contact with boo.
Throughout the story the children’s outlook changes on the world. They are starting to mature and look at things differently. By them maturing they are starting to see that Boo Radley is a caring guy because he put a blanket over Scout’s shoulders during Miss. Maudie’s house fire. Scout didn’t notice that it was Boo that put the blanket on her until someone told her it was him. This helped the kids grow up from knowing boo radley as a monster to a caring awkward guy.
Scout and Jem were gradually forced to grow up quicker than most kids in Maycomb. They learned that not all black men are treated equally like what is happening to Tom Robinson right now. Therefore, with all of this happening it is helping the children grow up into mature young adults. Encouraging the kids to be more independent with each other and not depending on their parents as much is a big step into the real world. By all of this happening with Atticus it will make the kids stronger individuals.
In conclusion, this should teach you not to judge a book by its cover. Jem and Scout were believing what they heard about Boo without meeting him. Once they realized Boo was the one leaving treats in the tree their whole point of view changed. Boo is just like other humans, he has a heart and wants to have friends. Boo is not a monster he is a guy who needed attention from other human beings.
