Nevertheless, Turkey now needs our support. Since the war, Turkey has sought additional financial assistance from Great Britain and the United States for the purpose of effecting that modernization necessary for the maintenance of its national integrity. That integrity is essential to the preservation of order in the Middle East. The British government has informed us that, owing to its own difficulties, it can no longer extend financial or economic aid to Turkey. As in the case of Greece, if Turkey is to have the assistance it needs, the United States must supply it. We are the only country able to provide that help.…

The purpose of this paper is to examine the rationale behind police brutality in correlation to social perception of immunity for law enforcement. There have been multiple reports where civilians have stated that they did not get involved in a crime in progress or an incident of police brutality because they feel that the officer will not be punished. This presumption leads to not only a lack of accountability on the part of the officers, as they fear no reprimand, but also on behalf of the bystanders who subsequently facilitate a means for these behaviors to continue. Instead, these bystanders pull out their camera in hopes of attaining 15 minutes of fame. While fear may take precedent over all other reasons for not getting involved, for these…

There are many reports that a probation officer must give. For this particular discussion, I will focus on a presentence report. A judge relies “on presentence reports, prepared by probation officers” when they are ready to sentence an offender (Bergman, n.d.). They (the judge) use this report to help “in making sentencing decisions” (Bergman, n.d.). A well written presentence report will have the following information to help a judge in making his or her decision, “circumstances of the offense”, a “defendant’s personal history” as well as any criminal background available, and a “victim impact statement” (Bergman, n.d.). In the end, a well-written report (of any kind) will help the person making a decision to make the best one possible.…

A Field Training Officer (FTO), Rutledge (Author), is on patrol with a patrol officer. He has to type his first police report and is not doing a good job. His officer was disappointed at what he had read in his report; he’s going to show the rookie how it’s done. The officer’s report was not only 50% longer, but full of jargon. The rookie cop stated, “Why do we write like that?” “Because that’s the way we’ve always done it,” replied the officer. After years of being a cop and writing real police reports, Rutledge became a prosecutor. After numerous trails, Rutledge was still boggled at the way police reports were written. So he decided to ask other people in the field of criminal justice and the explanation was the same, “that’s the way we’ve always done it, and no one has bothered to ask why.” The problem is the style is all wrong and everyone is trained to write this way. Rutledge states, “Police reports should be written in the way that you would normally communicate information.” Police reports need to be correct, unclouded and believable otherwise law enforcement personnel will undoubtedly lose the case. During a trial police reports are designed to help the officer out not the criminal; consequently, the court has trouble understanding the reports due to the style, too much jargon, excess big words, and awe and not enough communicating what you know. Rutledge states, “Work smarter not harder.”…
