Racism Against HealthCare Providers “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”(Martin Luther King Jr). Racism is discrimination and prejudice towards people based on their ethnicity or race. It may be defined as the hatred for one person by another or the belief that another person is less human because of their skin color, language, custom, or place of birth. It has influenced wars, slavery, and the formation of gangs. Racism has affected society as so often it happens the word “racism” triggers angry responses. In today’s society people recognize racism and discrimination are deeply fixed in the social and economic structures of society. For example minorities, there’s different results in unequal access is education, healthy foods, wages, and affordable housing. Also highly public events like Black Lives Matter has gained people’s attention and with this movement more people became aware with how people were getting treated in society. Even other physicians confirmed that patients, even from the emergency departments, sometime ask for a doctor or nurse of their own sex or ethnic background, or talk about being treating by a healthcare provider with a different race. Sometimes it shouldn’t matter about the skin color or race all patients and people should have to be treated fairly. But we live in a society we’re that’s impossible to
