Today, we still have many issues in our society that needs to be fixed. I believe that racism is the most crucial one that we must address. Racism is still a very prominent issue in today's society. Racism has nearly been around since the beginning of time and throughout human history. Anything ranging from segregation to discrimination, we see it everywhere, whether we notice it or not. We still see it in movies, schools, public places, and sports. I will be mainly focusing on racism in the scene of sports.
Although racism is a vital issue in today’s world, many people still do not know the definition. Racism is the belief that a particular race is superior or inferior to another, that a person’s social and moral traits are predetermined by his or her inborn biological characteristics. Racial separatism is the belief, most of the time based on racism, that different races should remain segregated and apart from one another. The student section of Elder High School began chanting racial comments at two opposing players from St. Xavier High School. Nate Stockman, a player from St. Xavier, received many racial slurs, just for being part Asian. The Elder High School student chanted comments such as "P.F. Chang" and “Hey number 2, open your eyes.” His mother stated that last year, it was only a few whispers, but now it was the whole student section. Nate Stockman wasn’t the only player receiving racist comments. African-American player Bobby Jefferson was also taunted with stereotypes of black people. These comments could be heard on the video of the game posted on EHSports.com, which features news on Elder High sporting events. Even though this was a very serious issue, no adult did anything to combat these actions
