Rationale:
For part four of my English course, I studied the novel ‘The Great Gatsby’ by Fitzgerald. It not only depicted the hideous manners originated from the sudden prosperity during the 1920s in America but also Gatsby’s pure love or more precisely the obsession towards Daisy, which cruelly led to a rather miserable ending.
I decided to write a set of short letter formats from Gatsby to Daisy, which eventually was not sent to her. The primary purpose of writing was to understand Gatsby’s inner-emotion and reflect it upon the letters, allowing me to include his thoughts and feelings, conveyed throughout the novel, which demonstrates my understanding of character relationships and themes throughout the novel. Since they are more like short, personal letters to Daisy, I intend to write in a casual, informal way. I also gave him a fluctuating tone, which is shown from different tones of each letter over time to construct an ambivalent figure of Gatsby. It wasn’t your fault, and everyone shall think exactly same as me. When you hit that man, you know what I scared of? I was scared of losing you not the poor woman’s life. What could I have done? Just escaping - what you said when you met me. I was so worried about you - I, to be honest, stayed outside of your house making sure you alright. I know you’ve been stressed up due to me today but why that faint green light seems like the end of our relationship? Daisy, please do not let me down again, just once more. I’ve been waiting for you every day, and now I just want a just short call to me just tell whether you are fine or not.
