Lady Macbeth
Personal greed is the reason some characters in Macbeth are corrupted. As soon as Macbeth, Banquo, and Lady Macbeth about Macbeth becoming thane of Cawdor and Glamis and eventually King. Macbeth’s arrogance is not initially found in his character, however as he follows the witches’ prophecy and begins to think of himself as a godly figure foretold to become a ruler, his downfall begins. Macbeth regards himself as a holy figure and is not aware that the witches he contacts are dystopic forces, not meant to help him get into power nor help him succeed but to end the mortal that knows their secret. In the play, right before Malcom invades Dunsinane, Macbeth says to the Doctor “I will not be afraid of death and bane/ Till Birnam Forest come to Dunsinane.” (Shakespeare 5.3.68-69) has great significance towards the idea of his arrogance.…
Author Criss Jami once said, “Just because something isn't a lie does not mean that it isn't deceptive. A liar knows that he is a liar, but one who speaks mere portions of truth in order to deceive is a craftsman of destruction” (http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/4860176.Criss_Jami). With this quote he explains that, oftentimes, truthfulness can be more misleading than dishonesty. William Shakespeare’s Macbeth is a play about ambition and greed. After hearing prophesies from three witches that he will be king, Macbeth becomes a power hungry killer who annihilates anyone standing in his way. The women in Macbeth’s life are deceptive and give him a false sense of hope and security which he uses as fuel for his selfish plans. The misleading…

Greed is the excessive desire to acquire or possess more, and it is also one of the biggest creators of tragedy. This is so vividly shown in both the novel The Sun Also Rises and in the play Macbeth. In The Sun Also Rises, this greed is directed toward a person, Lady Brett Ashley. Five men; Mike, Jake, Pedro, Bill, and the Count, are fighting to be with her throughout the book. In Macbeth, this greed is directed toward power as Macbeth wanted to become King, and what he does to become it. However, this greed led to the collapse of each character. Lady Ashley left all five men, leaving them devastated, while in Macbeth; an opposing army overthrew Macbeth. In both stories, greed drives the main character to do something, which is then achieved, but eventually leads to the fall of him. The Sun Also Rises and Macbeth, greed causes the ultimate downfall of the main character.…

“Leadership is a privilege to better the lives of others. It is not an opportunity to satisfy personal greed” (Mwai Kibaki). This quote, from the former president of Kenya, ties in perfectly with Macbeth’s thirst for power. In William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Macbeth, Macbeth murders King Duncan, knowing that he would become king when Duncan died instead of waiting to see if the prophecy would come true without forcing it. Greed holds the most power in influencing the actions of others.…
