Examples Of Spoken Language
The second example of spoken language is Obama's contribution to the interview by talk show host Jay leno. I will analyse this piece of spoken language which has been pre-recorded to be broadcasted in America making a huge audience of listeners for Obama to promote himself as president as well as convey his opinions on the closures of the embassies in the Middle east. The tone of the interview is very informal even when discussing difficult, serious topics. The atmosphere remains friendly and calm and the interview appears spontaneous but would likely have been pre-recorded.
Jay Leno introduces Obama on the talk show by using his full status term of President and then following this by using his full name in the quote " Welcome the president of the United States- Barack Obama. Welcome back sir" which shows Obama 's political status and identifies him as being a very important political figure. After Jay Leno personalises the interview by using his full name. Jay Leno also introduces Obama as "sir" which again suggests that Jay Leno is respecting Obama's title as president by using formal terms conveying a respect for him that the audience will also feel. …show more content…
Obama repeats " Its good to be back" showing his enthusiasm to be on the show in a natural way the audience therefore thinks the interview is spontaneous. The audience are then more inclined to like Obama as he uses this sentence "Thank you very much, thank you" which is directed at the audience and Jay Leno and is a way to flatter them. Obama also uses repetition in the quote " Thank you very much, thank you" which creates a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with the positive bond he creates between the audience and
