Examples Of Suspense In The Cask Of Amontillado
The suspense in “The Cask of Amontillado,” is started with the narrator stating his relation with his “friend” Fortunato, and how he displeases him to the point he needs to be rid of him with revenge. Throughout the story the narrator, montresor, is discussing why he can’t deal with fortunato’s insults to is good worth, and hints that this isn’t going to be his first time getting revenge on someone like Fortunato, but never tells the readers what he is going to do. Not telling the readers his idea for revenge leaves them questioning everything throughout the story. Tension/suspense is also created yet again because Fortunato has no idea there is something wrong between him and montresor, though montresor hints it to him a little bit here

    In “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe, the main character named Montresor is set out for revenge. Montresor’s only concern is to get revenge on the man who has wronged him named Fortuanto. Montresor never states why Fortunato deserves to be punished. The only statement Montresor makes is that Fortunato “causes him a thousand injuries” until “venturing upon insult.” (Poe, Online) Montresor plans to take out his revenge by burying Fortunato alive.
