The Great Gatsby is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, that takes place in 1922 New York. The 1920’s, known as “The Roaring Twenties, is thought of being a time of extravagant parties, wealth, and materalistic values. Throughout this novel, there are many examples of people who are influenced by having the mind set of the American Dream, such as Myrtle, Daisy, and Tom. In "The Great Gatsby", the American Dream emerges as a prominent theme throughout the novel in the instance that the main character, Jay Gatsby, realizes that being a diligent worker does not automatically give you all that you wish to have.
