Unintentional scientific investigation is, by its very nature, un-designed. That’s not to say it is ill-designed or meritless and, in fact, as with the case in point, could be the impetus for true investigative research. In her piece “My Children, the Food Experiment,” Sandra Steingraber offers a glimpse into her five-year experience feeding her children without commercial influences, while living in a cabin in the woods. Free from child-directed mass marketing, Steingraber observed that her children enjoyed fruits, vegetables and other food to which they had been exposed.…
It is dangerous to let the government take control of society’s actions as well as society’s thoughts the reason being that as time goes by ignorance can be clearly seen due to government control. Many authors use literary devices to help portray a theme. One of the most common used literary devices is Simile. A simile is comparing two things using like or as to describe or explain a setting or action to better understand the story. Ray Bradbury uses simile numerous times in his novel Fahrenheit 451, which displays a dystopian society set in the distant future…

However, shown by the calculated plan to erase the mean-spirited comments recorded by Jennifer Kahn when visiting Michael at his house, these actions are simply a way to get by until the next vicious act. The other children at the “summer camp” show similar behaviors; L takes her seat after chasing a boy around the room as soon as she is asked, only to do it again when the right opportunity strikes; Michael sees a toy in his younger brothers mouth and does nothing at first, only to turn and yank at the toy, knocking his brother over, when least suspected (Kahn). These seemingly virtuous acts are not in fact virtuous, because they are not being done because it is the right thing to do; because they know it is virtuous; because they consistently do virtuous deeds; because they have controls over their desires; or because they take pleasure in performing virtuous…

Among the many books and films we have read and watched, I enjoyed Monkey Beach by Eden Robinson and Flight by Sherman Alexie the most. Both protagonists’ go through struggles while making decisions that will affect their own lives permanently. Zits, the main character of Flight, had a lonely and sad life, similar to Lisa from Monkey Beach. I believe that these two characters are similar through more than just misfortunes, but on a physical and a mental level as well. Both characters go through traumatic situations that shape them into sad and angry people. The similarities between Lisa and Zits lives show that character development is strongly affected by surrounding environments as well as the people you involve yourself with. It is clear that these two characters share strong wills, individualism, and experiences of loss.…
What happiness means to me is something you find pleasurable or comfortable with. There are many kinds of happiness i can find in our society. There is physical happiness, where we fell the joy of being fit, strong or healthy. There is also intellectual happiness, where the pleasure come from you understanding something. Either way happiness is happiness, and it could be found in the novel, "Fahrenheit 451" written by Ray Bradbury. One example of happiness is at the beginning of the novel where Guy Montag is burning books, "While the books went up in sparkling whirls and blew away on a wind turned dark with burning. Montag grinned the fierce grin of all men singed and driven back back by flame"(4.) Already at the beginning of the book, it shows Guy Montag burning book.…
