Exercise and Obesity Obesity has been a big problem in the US and seems to be getting bigger and bigger and now our children are starting to suffer from obesity. It is important to set a good example and show our children how to make healthy choices. A healthy lifestyle is not hard to accomplish and you will have a longer life and be happier. Exercise can also help reduce chronic diseases that are associated with obesity (Schmidt 2012). Exercising paired with a healthy diet is a good way to keep in shape so you have more energy and do not become obese. Once you get into a steady diet and workout plan it is easy to maintain. At first it might be hard and you might struggle but after a while it becomes a lifestyle. Instead of having junk for snacks try replacing with fruit and vegetables and cut out soda and juice will help out extremely. One good way to stay in shape is by signing up for a gym membership and a lot of times they come with a trial period for a personal trainer. Or if the gym is something that is not for you there is always walking, running, or jump rope outside. There are a lot of different options to maintain a healthy lifestyle. As a parent you set an example and are a role model for your children. If you eat junk and are overweight chances are your children will be as well. Teaching them from a young age to eat healthy and be active will carry on to when they are older and can make those healthy choices from themselves. When they are taught to make those healthy choices they will make it on their own when they can. Children can develop high cholesterol, high blood pressure, early heart disease, diabetes, bone problem, and skin conditions (Roy Benoroch 2011). Another problem that can arise is getting teased in school from being obese and therefore develop a low self -esteem. For a young child it is not good as it could cause other problems.
