This exercise asks students to think of their experience with a past leader in their life and if this leader inspired followers to become leaders through the method of transformational leadership. After completing this exercise, and envisioning several recent supervisors, I realized that it has been quite some time since I have had what I would refer to as an inspirational leader in my working environment. The two dimensions of visionary leadership in this quiz have to do with creating the vision and implementing the vision. Those who create the vision think about the future, are excited about the future and engage others in future plans. Those who are into implementing the vision communicate the vision, allocate the work, and provide rewards for activities that achieve the vision. Upon completion of this exercise, I have found that the score was higher for creating rather than implementing the vision. I have great vision when it comes to ways for improving an organization through change. There are always improvement projects lurking in the shadows in the golf course management business. Creating the vision and engaging others in the plan has never been anything I deem to be difficult. However, presentation and implementation have often been hindered by lack of funding, improper presentation of the improvement plan, or just improper timing. Many golf course improvement projects rely on all the factors in this exercise, particularly the requesting for funds and presentation of the vision. Generally, the requests for golf course, clubhouse, and equipment improvements involve large dollar amounts and thus require a dovetailing method of offsetting cost with additional revenue to be presented.
